Bridal Emergency Kit

Tuesday, February 28th, 2012

Your wedding day should be absolutely perfect- from the flowers to the dress to the man next to you at the alter. Days, weeks, months are spent preparing and making sure everything is in order. But there are some things you just cannot control, like humidity or our beloved southern mosquitoes. But have no fear! A Charleston Bride has your back– or shall we say, backpack. We always carry our Bridal Emergency Kit and we recommend all brides do, too. This kit can be a lifesaver in the case of a headache, bug bite, or fly-away hair.

First, you’ll need your bag. A smaller sized backpack works perfectly. Not too big, not too small. We like this pink bag from Thimbleanna.

Secondly, you’ll need your beauty essentials.

  • Lip balm
  • Travel-size deodorant
  • Hair ties
  • Baby powder
  • Hair spray
  • French white tip nail polish
  • Travel-size lotion
  • Oil-removing facial wipes
  • Bobby pins
  • Safety pins

And last but not least, don’t forget your in-case-of-emergency-items:

  • Advil
  • Bottle of water
  • Bleach pen/Tide pen
  • Benadryl
  • Static guard
  • Mini-sewing kit
  •  La Fresh wipes: sunscreen and bug spray (we LOVE these biodegradable, all-natural wipes!)
  • Band aids
  • Neosporin
  • Tissues
  • Tampon
  • Shout wipe and go instant stain remover
  • Mouthwash
  • Listorine pocketpack breath stripes

Becky + Mark

Friday, February 24th, 2012

Today we are remembering the wedding of Becky Manne and Mark Joye for it has almost been one year since the two became husband and wife. In a ceremony on February 27, 2010, Becky and Mark tied the knot at the St. Andrew’s Church in Charleston, S.C. Hundreds of candles illuminated the stairs of the entrance of the church and paper flowers hung from the ceiling. Romance oozed from every detail. One of our favorite parts of this wedding was the perfectly classic black taxi the newlyweds drove off to their “happily ever after” in. Happy anniversary, Becky and Mark! We hope everyday of your marriage has been as beautiful and romantic as the day you two became Mr. & Mrs. Joye.

The ACB Guide to Style: For Grooms

Tuesday, February 21st, 2012

Ok, so one of the questions we get most here at A Charleston Bride isn’t where to find the bride a dress- but where to find clothes for the groom! Men’s formal wear can be tough, so we’ve put together a list of our favorite spots here in Charleston to find the best suits, bow ties, and the rest of spring’s hottest men’s formal fashion.

High Cotton Ties
This place is the place to go for southern attire.  They carry 100% cotton bow ties and cummerbunds of all colors and prints. A colorful bow tie at a spring wedding is a fun way to give the groom a pop of color without taking focus away from how great he looks in his suit (and next to his bride). Here are a few of our favorites:

Green and Gold Linen Stripe Bow Tie

Black Houndstooth Bow Tie

Soft Carolina Blue Stripe Bow Tie

Tidewater Chambray Bow Tie
Ben Silver
We are absolutely crazy about these black and white dot accessories from Ben Silver. From pocket squares to braces, Ben Silver does the dot right- not too cheesy, not over-done, but just right.
Black & White Spot Pocket Square
Black Silk Braces with White Dots
Found on King Street in Charleston, Jos. A. Bank has the perfect the suit for your soon-to-be-hubby. Rather than having your man stand beside you at the alter in a rented tux, send him to Jos. A. Bank to buy his own, personalized suit. He can pick the color, vest, and cut all to his liking. For spring weddings, we are seeing quite a lot of grooms in khaki suits and fun-colored ties. We are really digging this trend! It’s great to see a groom’s personality shine through on his wedding day with a little bit of color rather than your typical black-and-white tuxedo. And these summer weight suits are great for our South Carolina warm, spring weather.
