Meet our new staff!

Tuesday, September 27th, 2011

It takes a lot to get a wedding off the ground, and we are endlessly thankful for our wonderful interns and new office staff. Come behind the scenes and meet these young ladies!

Covington Golden- Production Intern

Though a Greenville native, Covington has become a Charleston girl in the last three years she’s been in Charleston. Her favorite restaurant here is Poogan’s Porch and her favorite thing to do here is run the Battery. Covington is a senior at CofC, studying two completely different subjects: biology and hospitality and tourism management.

“I have always wanted to be in the wedding planning business and when I got an email about the internship at ACB I thought it was the perfect way to get my foot in the door.  I love being able to experience the events first hand. Being able to see the girls from ACB work through an event shows me different perspectives that I wouldn’t normally see if just being a guest at a wedding,” Covington said.

When not working at ACB or studying, you can catch Covington hanging with her ADPi sisters, shopping, going to the beach, or watching her guilty pleasure shows , “The Bachelor,” “One Tree Hill,” and “Grey’s Anatomy.”

Her music tastes are as varied as her majors- she like’s 70s music, country, and Lil’ Wayne. She’ll probably skip the Lil’ Wayne for her father/daughter dance, which is her favorite part of any wedding.

“My favorite memory from every wedding I’ve attended is the first dance/father-daughter dance.  I’m in tears every time,” Covington said.

She wants to have her first dance in Charleston. Her dream wedding: “Springtime in Charleston, bright green and white colors, hydrangeas as flowers, on a plantation but this job has me torn between quite a few…filled with many traditions.”

Amy Buzhardt- Office Assistant

A 2011 CofC grad and former intern who “just could not get enough of the ACB team,” Amy works as our office assistant. She’s from Lexington, SC, and studied Corporate Communications and Hospitality and Tourism Management at CofC. Though she works hard, she says “I would paint my nails every day if there was enough time in the day.”

For Amy, the best part about working at ACB is “seeing the process of inspiration photos transforming into a full on design and plan for each wedding. Every bride is so unique and brings new ideas to the table. I really enjoy watching those ideas become reality at ACB.”

Amy loves happy endings- her favorite T.V. shows are “The Bachelor,” “The Bachelorette,” and “Bachelorpad.”

Luckily for Amy, her favorite season in Charleston, fall, is just around the corner.

“I love going to the beach, of course, but there is nothing better than taking a walk downtown on a fall day,” Amy says.

When she ties the knot, it will definitely be an autumn wedding. Her dream: “Fall wedding in Charleston at Pepper Plantation.  Yes please!”

Brooke Southern- Production Intern

Missouri native Brooke Southern, a senior at CofC studying Hospitality and Tourism Management and Business Administration, says the beauty of all of ACB’s events is why she wanted to intern here.

“I liked the style of ACB the most and loved how beautiful each event looked. I also took a Wedding Planning course at CofC in May. Melissa and Carrie were guest speakers and they both seemed like such wonderful, hardworking women to work for,” Brooke says.

Brooke loves being involved with weddings and watching everything come together from scratch.  She says that when she was younger and in a family wedding, she fell in front of everyone- luckily she can laugh about it now and that didn’t turn her off to weddings.

In fact, she’s already decided what her perfect wedding is.

“My dream wedding is in a big church since I’m Catholic and then a reception at a place similar to Lowndes Grove. It would probably be big because I’ll want to invite all of my friends and family. As long as they are all there and it doesn’t rain, the day would be perfect! ”

“Charleston Weddings” features our very own Leigh Warren

Tuesday, September 13th, 2011

Though she and husband Randy tied the knot last October, our very own Leigh Warren’s stunning wedding is featured in this month’s issue of Charleston Weddings.

Leigh and Randy Warren at Lowndes Grove Plantation

As someone who’s spent years planning other people’s perfect day, Leigh knew all the tricks to make her wedding spectacular.

Every detail was just right, from the burnt orange and grey color palette to the pillows and linens that Leigh helped cut and sew herself.

Looking timelessly elegant in a Jodi Moylan from White gown, Leigh had the flowers on her Wedding Cakes by Jim Smeal cake custom-made to match her dress.

Tables and tents and chairs…oh my!

Tuesday, September 6th, 2011

One of our favorite rental company, Snyder Event Rentals, has debuted new tables, chairs, and tents for its events, from weddings to Charleston Fashion Week.

Last month, Snyder began offering two new chairs to help clients further customize their special events, both $8.50 each per rental.

The Frank is a mahogany  ”X”-backed chair that is taller and more elegant than the regular folding chair.

The "Frank" chair can be paired with any of Snyder's ballroom cushions

The Lane has a lighter natural-stain finish, a perfect complement to the majestic oaks at the William-Aiken House.

The flared back "Lane" is simple yet elegant

Snyder brings a hint of by-gone days with its new Tidewater Sailcloth Tent, available in 17′ x 20′ and 51′ x 91′. The tents are completely waterproof, designed to ensure your event is safe from even the strongest squall.

Whether by the water or not, add a nautical flair to your event with this tent

The Snyder Lounge division of Snyder Event Rentals just premiered a sturdy Cypress Farm Table, handmade in the area. The 54″ x 54″ tables can fit eight people, but still feel comfortably intimate.

The tables rent at $75 each
